Fall Performance

Fall Performance

The 51st season will open with humor on October 9-12, 2008, at the Lyric Theatre!

The Concert “is surely the most comic ballet of all time.” (The New York Times). Enjoy the delightfully tongue-in-cheek The Concert, Jerome Robbins’ riotous glimpse into the meandering thoughts of daydreaming concert goers. Just getting the seating arrangements straightened out becomes a sidesplitting moment! This work was a smashing success on the Kansas City Ballet stage in October 2004.

Trey McIntyre’s The Naughty Boy, set to Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G, focuses on the romantic antics of four couples and a Cupid. The dance showcases McIntyre’s confident, sassy, and breezy use of classical ballet. McIntyre is “one of ballet’s most surprising talents” (The New York Times).

Enjoy the lively Rodeo - this love story of the American Southwest from the choreographer of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s popular musical Oklahoma! This ballet is choreographed by the American master Agnes de Mille and set to the music of another American genius, Aaron Copland. Watch how this cowgirl, with the odds seemingly against her, sets out to get herself a man.

The Kansas City Symphony will accompany these ballets.
